We want to create a slide show sharing memories of Faith, as well as the Covenant and Sherwood congregations that merged to form Faith. One of our favorite annual Fellowship events is our Chili Cook-off and Karaoke fund raiser for cancer research. You are invited to bring a pot of chili and/or a dessert to share with the group, but that’s not all. There will be a cup placed in front of each chili, and after you have sampled, please vote for your favorite(s) by placing cash or checks (made payable to Faith) in the cup. You are encouraged, in the best Louisiana tradition, to “vote early and often,” and all proceeds will go to the American  Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The winner will receive the coveted Chili Spoon trophy!

After dinner, John & Shannon Ortego, with Audio Pro Karaoke, will accompany our karaoke singers. They have hundreds of songs, in many different genres, so plan to tune up your vocal chords and sing a song or two. In years past, we have had many celebrity singing groups show up to perform, and this year promises to be no different.

Don’t keep this event all to yourself – invite a friend, or two, or three, to join you for the fun. And don’t forget to share the blessing and take some chili to a neighbor or shut-in!

The Fun & Fellowship group is planning on an exciting Fall Festival as an outreach to our local community later this month, on October 25th from 6 pm—8 pm. Children from Twin Oaks Elementary are being invited, as well as friends and family of church members and members of our surrounding community. This will be a great time for people of all ages!

There will be games, food and fun! Decorate or carve a pumpkin at home and bring it to the festival to see if you can win the pumpkin decorating contest! There will be a costume contest for kids 12 and under, although people of all ages are encouraged to dress up!

So, come out and enjoy the fun! To register your child or to get more information about this event, please contact the church office at 275-7393.

Let’s try this again – the last post I made about this didn’t work correctly!

It’s time again for our annual fish fry! Plan to take part in the food and fun this coming Sunday, September 27th after worship. Fish, Hush-puppies, and Coleslaw will be provided. Please bring a potluck dessert to share with the group!

We have 16 closets in the Education Building, three in the sanctuary building, and a trailer behind the Education Building, with lots of pertinent and impertinent materials in each one. All the closets need to be unloaded, re-organized, and repurposed to offer storage space for the needs of members and committees, such as Buildings and Grounds, Choir, Christian Education, Fun & Fellowship, Ladies Mission, Nursery, Pastor John , Vacation Bible School, and Worship, to name a few.

Could we replace the warped wooden shelves with MDF or ventilated wire shelves? How many Bibles and Hymnals do we need, and could we share with another church? Is there a way to open up the kitchen into the large closet behind it and make it more functional for fellowship and VBS dinners? We need your input and your presence at this meeting. Please be thinking of suggestions for our closet make-over and come prepared to share your ideas on Saturday, August 29, at 5:00 PM, for our organizational meeting of the “Closet Clutter Busters”.

And plan to stay after this meeting for our Saturday Night at the Movies presentation, “Fireproof”, from the folks who made “Facing the Giants”. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and popcorn will be served!

Break out your best chili recipe to win the coveted “Chili Spoon” on Sunday, February 8th at 5:00 PM at Faith Presbyterian Church. Bring your appetite and try them all – and then vote for your favorite. Voting is on a cash basis – vote early and often – and remember that this is a fundraiser for Relay for Life! (If you are not making chili, please bring a potluck dessert.)

After the chili, stay for singing and fun with AudioPro Karaoke!

The Fun & Fellowship group has organized a group trip to the Natchitoches Annual Christmas Festival on December 6th, 2008. The day long celebration includes activities such as live entertainment, arts, crafts and food vendors, parade, fireworks, laser show and the lighting of 300,000+ Christmas bulbs and 100 plus riverbank set pieces.

At the time of this article, there are currently still spaces available. The cost for the trip is $35.00. This includes the paying for the bus ride and the ticket to get into the festival. You may bring food and drinks with you for the day or purchase food at the festival.

If you would be interested in going please contact the church office so that we can be sure to reserve your seat! This is sure to be a fun event for all, and takes the hassles of travel and parking out of your hands so that you can enjoy the trip to it’s fullest! We will meet at the church at 8 AM for a light breakfast and the bus leaves at 9 AM.

There are a few dates coming up on the church calendar that you should be aware of.

Once again we will have our annual Fish Fry with Art Frens doing the cooking! The date is set for September 21st after worship. Fish, Hush-puppies, and Coleslaw will be provided. Please bring a potluck dessert to share with the group!

Also, Tickets are now available for the upcoming Jambalaya Dinner Sale! The date of the sale is October 17th. Dinners will cost $5.00 each and will include jambalaya, salad, and bread. Delivery of dinners is available with a pre-purchase of 10 dinners or more. Ask people at your office if they would be interested!
