PURPOSE: Experience an environment where people feel like participating without fear or intimidation. A chance to invite your friends and neighbors to experience the excitement of a JOYFUL type of Spiritual experience and fun without being religious! We will sing favorites from the Beatles to Best Of Folk and your favorite songs from your retreat experience and younger camping days. Let’s get together to sing our hearts out with songs everyone actually likes to sing out of the 1,175 ‘SONGS’ Songbook. We use songs easy to sing and play, and are in the right key with simple chords.

Sweethearts Dinner

Come celebrate your love with us at a couples Sweethearts Dinner! The menu for the evening will be a delicious steak dinner. The cost for the dinner is only $20.00 per couple. Childcare will be provided free of charge. You will also have a chance to renew your marriage vows, if you so choose!

Reservations are required. Please call the church office at 225-275-7393 by Wednesday, February 10th at noon if you would like to make a reservation for dinner. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly in the church office Monday through Friday from 10 am—2 pm at 12855 Old Hammond Highway.

Please join us at Faith Presbyterian Church on December 24th at 4:00 p.m. for a new kind of Christmas Eve Worship Service.

This Christmas Before Santa Service will be family focused with lots of great Christmas Carols and singing.  We look forward to sharing the Joy of Christmas with our friends and local community!

Please make sure to save the date for this new, informal worship service and bring your entire family!

The Fun & Fellowship group is planning on an exciting Fall Festival as an outreach to our local community later this month, on October 25th from 6 pm—8 pm. Children from Twin Oaks Elementary are being invited, as well as friends and family of church members and members of our surrounding community. This will be a great time for people of all ages!

There will be games, food and fun! Decorate or carve a pumpkin at home and bring it to the festival to see if you can win the pumpkin decorating contest! There will be a costume contest for kids 12 and under, although people of all ages are encouraged to dress up!

So, come out and enjoy the fun! To register your child or to get more information about this event, please contact the church office at 275-7393.

Let’s try this again - the last post I made about this didn’t work correctly!

It’s time again for our annual fish fry! Plan to take part in the food and fun this coming Sunday, September 27th after worship. Fish, Hush-puppies, and Coleslaw will be provided. Please bring a potluck dessert to share with the group!

The Closet Clutter Busters initial meeting was held on Saturday, August 29, with Carol Bell, John & Karen Blewitt, Dwyer & Sandy Broussard, Alice Kennedy, Bob & Freda Knight, and Jill Wild in attendance. The group’s mission is to de-clutter, reorganize and refurbish the closets in the Education Building and the Sanctuary, along with the Storage Building behind the Education Building.

Karen Blewitt and Jill Wild will be leading a work day on Saturday, September 12, beginning at 9:00 AM to begin the process of de-cluttering the closets. Please consider giving some of your time to help us with this undertaking. (All projects will be completed in time for the LSU-Vanderbilt game at 6:00 PM!)

A second meeting will be held after Worship on Sunday, August 13, to assess our progress and plan for the next steps. Your presence is welcomed and appreciated!

We have 16 closets in the Education Building, three in the sanctuary building, and a trailer behind the Education Building, with lots of pertinent and impertinent materials in each one. All the closets need to be unloaded, re-organized, and repurposed to offer storage space for the needs of members and committees, such as Buildings and Grounds, Choir, Christian Education, Fun & Fellowship, Ladies Mission, Nursery, Pastor John , Vacation Bible School, and Worship, to name a few.

Could we replace the warped wooden shelves with MDF or ventilated wire shelves? How many Bibles and Hymnals do we need, and could we share with another church? Is there a way to open up the kitchen into the large closet behind it and make it more functional for fellowship and VBS dinners? We need your input and your presence at this meeting. Please be thinking of suggestions for our closet make-over and come prepared to share your ideas on Saturday, August 29, at 5:00 PM, for our organizational meeting of the “Closet Clutter Busters”.

And plan to stay after this meeting for our Saturday Night at the Movies presentation, “Fireproof”, from the folks who made “Facing the Giants”. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and popcorn will be served!

We have scheduled a new Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University class which will begin on August 23 at Faith Presbyterian Church. This class will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm. This is a great class to take with your significant other or by yourself! It will help anyone and everyone who wants to learn how to manage their finances and learn how to “live like no one else, so you can live like no one else”!

We still have plenty room for more participants in this class and it is open to anyone who has purchased, or who agrees to purchase a membership kit. If you would like to purchase a membership kit, please call the office and let us know so that we can order you one.

Please tell your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members who you think might be able to benefit from the course. If they want more information, tell them that we are having a free preview of the course at 2PM next Sunday, August 16. There will be a Presbyterian Women’s Fall Rally in Baton Rouge and it will be hosted by the women of Faith Presbyterian Church on August 15. Registration will start at 8.30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Randy Nichols, Executive Director of Capital Area Alliance for the Homeless. The mission for this rally is to help support the Youth Homes of the Capital Area. Items that are need at the Youth homes are paper products (toilet paper, paper towels) and personal hygiene items (toothpaste, tooth brush, deodorant, mouthwash, body wash, lotion, dental floss). Financial donations would also be greatly accepted to fun their arts and crafts projects. Edie Slaton will present the overview of this years Bible study, Joshua: A Journey of Faith by Mary Mikhael. LIVING A LIFE OF GRATITUDE

Kevin Garvey, the Chief Development Officer for the Board of Pensions will be visiting in the Presbytery August 14-16, 2009 to meet with each cluster offering a wonderful seminar.

The Baton Rouge Cluster will Host Kevin Garvey at Faith Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 14 at 6:30 P.M. Please RSVP by phone to the church office at 225-275-7393. Dinner will be served at this event.

This seminar is appropriate for all members of our congregations. An offering will be collected for the Board of Pensions “Assistance Fund” as we share our appreciation for Kevin’s time and talent. The seminar will focus on how to move from a Stewardship Campaign to a Culture of Generosity, Living in Gratitude. Included in this presentation are the important elements of funds development: prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition, as well as how to create a culture of generosity by establishing a committee, calendar and plan. Participants will depart with specifics that you will be able to implement in the local church Plan to join Kevin for this interactive and empowering workshop – be ready: participation is expected!
